TeachMeet Midlands 2009

Friday 15th May 2009 6-9.30pm

National College for School Leadership, Nottingham

It worked!!  Thanks Tom Barrett for making it happen and to the people who came and  shared.

Share your stories, ask your questions and learn from each other at TeachMeet Midlands, to be held at the National College for School Leadership's Learning and Conference Centre in Nottingham.

View this Flickr search to see images of NCSL's Learning & Conference Centre or visit the Learning & Conference Centre website. Here is some info about getting there.

What is TeachMeet?

Learn something new, be amazed, amused and enthused. This is an informal gathering of those curious about teaching and technology. Anyone can share great ideas they've trialled in their classrooms, ask important questions  or simply sign up to take part in learning conversations.

What can you do?

You can come along to chat, meet new people, or give a seven minute talk, a two minute nano presentation or lead a conversation.

As with all Teachmeets, we are dependant on our sponsors for refreshments and wifi and other costs. Please contact Stuart [stuart dot sutherland @ ncsl dot org dot uk] if you can help.

Seven minute micropresentations

Add your name and what you may talk about below. YOUR TALK MUST BE ABOUT EXPERIENCES OF WORK IN CLASSROOMS. Don't bother if it is just about showcasing a product.

Learning conversations

At recent TeachMeets, not everybody who wished to present has been able to present. Similary, not everybody wishes to perform. So .... instead of doing a presentation, would you like to lead a conversation on a topic that's currently close to your heart? Perhaps it's an area where you have more questions than answers? We'll make space in the night for these learning conversations to take place. Sign up below if you'd like to lead a conversation.

1. Are we preaching to the converted at TeachMeet?  If so, how do we get the message to the masses?

(I guess most of us are ICT 'savvy,' but what tools, techniques, tricks and tips do we use to raise awareness of the potential that ICT offers, with colleagues who don't share our enthusiasm (. . . yet!)?)

2. Why technology?

Spurred on by Ben Grey's recent post, people in the edublogosphere have been thinking (again!) about how to persuade people that money should be spent on transformative technology for schools. How do we go about making these arguments? Should we even be advocating it?

If you have BT Broadband at home, you should be able to use the BT Openzone wifi service at the venue for free. To get access, you need to join the BT Fon network. Basically, you allow others to (securely) share your home wifi as a hotspot and in return BT give you free wifi minutes through any wifi hotspot in their networks. Read about it here
It's safe and free - save you buying wifi minutes when on the road! };8)

As with Theo, can't seem to edit the page. I will unfortunately not be able to make Teachmeet now...
Please remove me from no. 8 in 7 minute presentations and no. 7 in Teach Eat if possible.
Hope all goes well, and will be at SLF in October. Look forward to seeing the outcomes.

Still cannot edit this page :-( need to remove my name from TM Midlands list as I am now involved in running a residential CPD project on that date; however I will try to join in via Flashmeeting, and possibly show the teachers involved in the project what a Teachmeet looks like. So if someone that can edit and remove my name I would be most grateful. Cheers - Theo
