Friday 15th May 2009 6-9.30pm
National College for School Leadership, Nottingham
It worked!! Thanks Tom Barrett for making it happen and to the people who came and shared.
Share your stories, ask your questions and learn from each other at TeachMeet Midlands, to be held at the National College for School Leadership's Learning and Conference Centre in Nottingham.
View this Flickr search to see images of NCSL's Learning & Conference Centre or visit the Learning & Conference Centre website. Here is some info about getting there.
Learn something new, be amazed, amused and enthused. This is an informal gathering of those curious about teaching and technology. Anyone can share great ideas they've trialled in their classrooms, ask important questions or simply sign up to take part in learning conversations.
What can you do?
You can come along to chat, meet new people, or give a seven minute talk, a two minute nano presentation or lead a conversation.
As with all Teachmeets, we are dependant on our sponsors for refreshments and wifi and other costs. Please contact Stuart [stuart dot sutherland @ ncsl dot org dot uk] if you can help.

Learning conversations
At recent TeachMeets, not everybody who wished to present has been able to present. Similary, not everybody wishes to perform. So .... instead of doing a presentation, would you like to lead a conversation on a topic that's currently close to your heart? Perhaps it's an area where you have more questions than answers? We'll make space in the night for these learning conversations to take place. Sign up below if you'd like to lead a conversation.
1. Are we preaching to the converted at TeachMeet? If so, how do we get the message to the masses?
(I guess most of us are ICT 'savvy,' but what tools, techniques, tricks and tips do we use to raise awareness of the potential that ICT offers, with colleagues who don't share our enthusiasm (. . . yet!)?)
2. Why technology?
Spurred on by Ben Grey's recent post, people in the edublogosphere have been thinking (again!) about how to persuade people that money should be spent on transformative technology for schools. How do we go about making these arguments? Should we even be advocating it?

Graham Davies, aka Groovy Winkler in SL and daisybundle in Twitter: I would love to do a presentation on Second Life at a distance, but I shall be skiing here in Austria on 21 January and there is a shortage of wifi environments in the mountain bars. However, all is not lost, as there is plenty of information about SL on the Web:
- Lots of info about SL at the ICT4LT site - regularly updated with loads of links.
- The EUROCALL/CALICO Virtual Worlds Ning - join the Ning and learn more!
- My Introduction to Second Life for newbies - a downloadable Word document.
- My Screenjelly presentation - a 3-minute tour of the EUROCALL/CALICO HQ in SL, created with the free Screenjelly screen capture tool.
- Helen Myers' video about her experiences as a language learner in SL.
- Or just drop into the EUROCALL/CALICO HQ, walk around, pick up the notecards, grab a free teeshirt, and watch the PowerPoint presentations and the video showing kids in the John Hanson Community School using Second Life.
