Teachmeet:PhysTech

Physics and Technology Edition

Supported by SQA and the Institute of Physics

What is TeachMeet?

Learn something new, be amazed, amused and enthused. This is an informal gathering of those curious about teaching and technology. Anyone can share great ideas they've trialled in their classrooms, ask important questions or simply sign up to take part in learning conversations. This edition is a cross-curricular teachmeet (oh, very aCfE, I hear you say) with a focus on Physics and Technology.

If you're putting anything related on the web please use the following tag for all posts, images, tweets and presentations to do with TeachMeet:PhysTech: TMPHYSTECH

What can you do?

You can come along to chat, meet new people, or give a seven minute talk, a two minute nano presentation or lead a conversation.

As with all Teachmeets, we are dependant on our sponsors for a venue, refreshments, wifi, equipment and other costs.

Presentation Rules

What are the rules for Teachmeet:PhysTech? Let's stick to the strict no death-by-powerpoint rule. Try Prezi, video, photos, posters or live equipment demontrations - remember you have limited setting up time if you're called up!

You can use whatever presentation format you want including PowerPoint, keynote, prezi, slide rocket, 280 slides, you could just talk, show something from the web, hold up a poster or you could sing a song! Does anybody fancy a focus on inclusion for hearing or sight-impaired students?

The important thing is that you get your message across and you will only get one minute set up time.

Be prepared for technical difficulties and be ready to wing it on the night! That’s what makes Teachmeet exciting!

Un-Conference Chair

Sponsors? Maybe! Watch this space...

Seven minute micropresentations

Add your name and what you may talk about below. YOUR TALK MUST BE ABOUT EXPERIENCES OF WORK IN CLASSROOMS. Don't bother if it is just about showcasing a product.

  1. Nick Hood (Twitter) technology demo: interactive whiteboard using a Nintendo WiiMote
  2. Neil Taylor IoP coordinator - how can I help?
  3. Stuart Farmer - real graphs with real data
  4. Tim Browett - Making sense of electricity
  5. etc..

Two minute nano presentations

Add your name and what you may talk about below. YOUR TALK MUST BE ABOUT EXPERIENCES OF WORK IN CLASSROOMS. Don't bother if it is just about showcasing a product.

  1. Lara Woods - radioactivity: the kid way
  2. Stuart Farmer - it's all Greek to me
  3. Stuart Farmer - circuit analysis
  4.

Learning conversations

At recent TeachMeets, not everybody who wished to present has been able to present. Similary, not everybody wishes to perform. So... instead of doing a presentation, would you like to lead a conversation on a topic that's currently close to your heart? Perhaps it's an area where you have more questions than answers?

We will try to make space in the night for these learning conversations to take place.

Sign up below if you'd like to lead a conversation and tell us what it will be about.

  1. Bruce Sinclair, Univ. St Andrews - university-school links, esp. re new H and AH & Bacc
  2. David McGloin, Univ. of Dundee - university-school links, esp with reference to local Dundee schools (same as Bruce, really)

Teacheat

Whenever Physics teachers gather, there's usually the aroma of a cheesy naan and buffet food. Techy teachers are probably no exception. Let's continue the conversation after teachmeet:PhysTech at a local restaurant - suggestions?

Add your name if you're up for some proper scoff after the main event...

  1. Nick Hood (Twitter)
  2. Neil Taylor

(not booked anything for this yet... looks like it could be a kebab. Any takers?)

Sponsors

Venue, wifi, a-v equipment, finger buffet, bar, merchandise, teacheat, postage (for pledge postcards?), all cost money. We're all big enough to pay our own way but support from sponsors makes these events happen... and happen again. Your support is greatly appreciated by all who benefit from these events, not least the children whose learning experience is enriched by the sharing of good practice. Please contact Nick Hood (Twitter) if you can help.

The Institute of Physics and SQA are generously supporting this event.
