What is a TeachMeet?
Learn something new, be amazed, amused and enthused. This is an informal gathering of those curious about learning, teaching and education in the beautiful surroundings of the Isle of Lewis - we believe it's also the furthest North/West that a Teachmeet has gone in Scotland!
TeachMeets are FREE, informal "unconferences", all about creating opportunities for those interested in education to take the lead, share practice, discover new ideas, network and be inspired all during the course of one CPD fuelled event! Anyone can get involved, share great ideas they've trialled in their classrooms, ask important questions or simply sign up to take part in learning conversations. All are welcome. Video link below
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VipEX4Sl5WQ
Plan of Action:
Friday - arrive/settle in/meet, greet/eat around 1900hrs. Location - Lounge Bar of the Royal Hotel - HS1 Menu.
Saturday am - TM at Lews Castle College/UHI in the Foyer - 10am to 12.30pm-ish; Saturday pm - Shopping /local tours; 3pm BBQ in Uig, then depart or stay for Saturday night in Stornoway!
Sunday am - short trip out somewhere to see the sights. Sunday pm - Lifts to ferry / airport.
What do you need to do?
If you wish to share your ideas with everyone, please sign up below, giving your name and a brief description of your subject. You can talk about anything that has inspired you, has worked well in class, a tool, a strategy, a topic... The list is endless. There is no limit on volunteer presenters - just click on the tab button in the last box of the grid to create new rows - the more the merrier!
The one rule here is no selling!
You do not have to present anything, you can always just attend :)

Administration points
Accommodation
We appreciate that accommodation might be a problem. We intend to book accommodation, fill peoples' houses, squat in empty castles* etc. More to follow once we see how many are coming (Dave Terron - @daveterron).
[*Castle, eh? You'll be lucky! Have a nice, scenic derelict black house lined up for you!]
Here is a link for the Heb Hostel - £16 per night: http://www.hebhostel.com/home.html
Or send me your email address and I can send some recommendations and links for nice hotels, guest houses and B&Bs (Liz S - @doglaunchers).
Travel
We appreciate that travel for some will be the main problem. The fare from Ullapool to Stornoway with a car is about £101 return (Out Fri 1025hrs back Sun after tea) - on foot is c£20 return.
Here is a link to Caledonian Macbrayne's website for details, the summer ferry timetable and fares: http://www.calmac.co.uk/timetables/summer-timetables.htm?id=summer-lewis--stornoway-ullapool.png
Am approaching my LA to see if they will grant travel costs as part of my Personal Development and also asking a Moray specific fund for help. We will have a flashmeeting set up for online participation - details above
I'll be going Elgin - Inverness - Ullapool - Stornoway early Friday 18th and returning after tea Sunday so if you need a lift.... @daveterron for info/liaison
Any other admin points/comments?
I can offer a double room, lifts to/from TM etc for Friday 18th and Sat 19th May - out in the sticks though - 30mins from town centre, but with sea view and alpacas! @anneglennie
Any 'touristy tours' we should think about booking/offering details for people to go on? (DT)
Yes, absolutely! You can't come to Lewis and not see the sights. Will add details below as I get them sorted:
Here's a link for the local arts centre which has a cinema, hosts musical events and workshops, has a nice restaurant and bar - keep an eye on May events: http://www.lanntair.com/ As events are publicised, I'll also post up on here any details of pubs / clubs hosting other music events during #tmhebrides weekend.
I have booked a minibus for a trip and BBQ on Saturday pm to Valtos beach in Uig (area on the west coast of Lewis - not the town in Skye!) via tourist attractions such as the Callanish standing stones, Carloway Broch, etc, depending on weather and numbers interested. Alternatively, we could all go to Traigh Mhor in Tolsta for the BBQ - decision made on the day depending upon numbers and weather, etc.
Hail to the Bus Driver = Dave Terron. The minibus can take folk up to Lews Castle College on Saturday morning: if you want a lift, please be at the front door of the Royal Hotel at 9.00am. (Liz S)
See columns in booking table above and add Yes or No please
