What is a TeachMeet?

TeachMeets are informal gathering of those with an interest in or curiosity about learning and teaching. They're all about sharing great ideas both from informal and formal learning environments.

Anyone can get up and talk about what they've been up to and, indeed, anyone can host a TeachMeet. There are only three guidelines:

  1. No selling/pitching/advertising commercial products or services
  2. Stick to your time (2 minutes or 7 minutes)
  3. Powerpoint/Keynote/Prezi/other presentation software is discouraged. Please be as interactive as possible!

Why a Mozilla Webmaker TeachMeet?

The Mozilla Foundation is a global non-profit organization promoting openness, innovation and participation on the Internet. We want to create a generation of webmakers - young people who not just elegantly consume, but who are empowered enough to also write the Web.

TeachMeet Mozilla Webmaker Edition may feature some sharing of practice around our free, open tools such as X-Ray Goggles, Thimble and Popcorn. Or not. It's entirely up to those who sign up. We're providing the space (and the nibbles!) but we're not dictating what happens.

When/where is it?

 Mozilla London office (co-working space)

13:00-16:00, Saturday 6th October 2012

You're looking for this (Google Street View) - it's next to Starbucks! John Bevan (@bevangelist) will be there to greet you - Doug Belshaw (@dajbelshaw) will be upstairs keeping the drinks and snacks company. ;-)

Current loose agenda:

13:00 - Networking time and informal discussions

13:15 - Welcome & 'hacktivation'

13:25 - First round of presentations

13:50 - Round table workshops

14:40 - BREAK

15:00 - Second round of presentations

15:30 - Messing about with stuff below (also 'soft' finish for those who need to catch earlier trains)

16:00 onwards: self-organised groups for early dinner or conversations leading to MozPub! (17:00 onwards)

How do I sign up?

Who gets to speak?

As is now traditional at TeachMeets, we'll be using a Name Generator to decide who gets to speak next. It all adds to the impromptu and spontaneous nature of the event!

Round table workshops

These are participant-driven workshops on whatever you'd like to focus on. If you'd like to tinker with Mozilla's Webmaker tools then so much the better!
