What is a TeachMeet?

A TeachMeet is an informal gathering for those of us who are enthusiastic about learning and teaching and who are keen to share ideas. Everyone is invited to share approaches they have trialled in their classrooms, examples of good practice and to ask questions, or simply to soak up all the ideas and atmosphere.

The main point of a TeachMeet is to hear stories about learning from teachers and other education professionals. It is about being engaged and inspired by our immediate colleagues and gaining a whole bucket load of networking to boot! To work, it needs people to sign up to give short presentations; a presentation can last for 2 minutes and can include demonstrations or visual aids as appropriate. This year we are also inviting participants to lead a discussion in our round table 20 min sessions. These sessions should consist of 10 min max where the leader explains a particular idea, theory, strategy, etc... and then leaves the discussion open for the participants to their session to interact and give their input in the remaining 10 min.

If you have done something exciting with one of your classes recently or if you would like to come along and watch, sign up below and come along. Open to all with an interest in the Literacy and Numeracy Framework (both Primary and Secondary).

Our Keynote Speaker!

We are pleased and thrilled to announce our keynote speaker as Gareth Ritter from Willows High School. Gareth is an award winning teacher who has undoubtedly inspired many learners from very difficult backgrounds. If you've never heard Gareth talk about his learning journey, you should come to the event just for this session. His use of technology to engage learners is outstanding and Gareth will kick the TeachMeet off with some examples of how good pedagogy married to effective tools have made a massive difference in his school and how the journey will continue for his students and the staff at Willows High.

Gareth tweets as @RitzerTech and there is much to be learnt from following him.

Engage on Twitter

Before, during and after the event make sure you use the Twitter hash tag #TMCardiff to engage with us, share links and great things you see and like at the event!
