What is TeachMeet?

It is an informal and enjoyable gathering of those curious about teaching and learning. Anyone can share great ideas they've trialled in their classrooms, a teaching resource they love, a great website, a classroom activity - whatever you like! You can ask questions or simply turn up to soak up all the great ideas and enthusiasm.  It is about being engaged and inspired by our immediate colleagues and gaining a lot of of networking to boot!

What can you do?

You can just come along and be a member of the audience if you like, you can give a two minute nano-presentation on one of your favourite teaching ideas, or you can give a seven minute micro-presentation on an aspect of classroom teaching. 

Telling Others

Please tell other teachers about the event. If you've been to a TeachMeet before, aim to bring along someone who hasn't.

Please use Twitter and other Social Media to publicise this event. We have a twitter account @derbyshireTM and we're going to use the tag #DerbyshireTM - include that whenever your write or post anything about Derbyshire TeachMeet.

Seven minute micro:

Add your name and what you may talk about below. It could be about stuff that has happened in the classroom.Don't worry if it is just about showcasing a product, a piece of software, free or otherwise, or a tool or a strategy to improve learner interest or engagement or for teachers' professional learning.

2. Joy Danby - Cereal boxes as a tool to teach command words 
3. Emma Newell - Student societies that are self-sufficient - supporting and stretching without the stress! 
4. Jo Hawkyard - Improving essay skills and encouraging reflective dialogue at KS5 
5. Shanie Nash - You can die of boredom: so please don't kill me with another extension worksheet.

Two minute nano presentations

Add your name and what you may talk about below. Again, you must talk about experiences from the classroom.

1. Gordon Day - 1. Use of estimate questions to make students think outside the box. Usually needs a set of simple assumptions followed by simple maths. However they find making assumptions hard and still over complicate the situation. Tend to use this at KS5 and end of KS4 with top sets. 2. Use of particle model to explain reactions - have reaction going on as well as using Lego/Modelling Clay to explain. This gives plenty of scope for differentiated outcomes.
