What is TeachMeet English?

This is an informal event for English teachers to share ideas that work.  There will be a keynote, short presentations and further opportunities to discuss the subject with fellow English teachers. However you wish to get involved, you will leave with a ton of new ideas.  It’s a great opportunity to reflect on the year and leave with enthusiasm for the rest of the term and beyond.  The presentations are short and sweet so we can hear from many different people. Teachers of other subjects are welcome too of course!

The keynote will be from Alex Quigley, Head of English at Huntington school in York. Alex (@huntingenglish)is one of the heavyweight thinkers on education and you can read his blog here: http://huntingenglish.wordpress.com/

The Sharepocalypse

We want there to be a lasting legacy from the event.  In attendees’ packs there will be 8 postcards, each with a question relevant to English teachers.  The idea is for attendees to fill these in and we will pool together all of the great ideas.  We want practical ideas and useful strategies which work in your classroom.  During coffee break and lunch, attendees will be asked to complete these postcards and hand them in at the relevant area of the venue.

If you would like to lead one of these, please sign up below.  You will choose the question/topic and then collate the ideas together following the event.  You can then blog these so we can see a lasting impact from the day.  Any question goes, but the best ones will lend themselves to generating a range of different responses and a sharing of practical strategies.

An example question might be: 'What methods do you use to ensure students respond to your written feedback?'

1 Emma Tomaz @eltvasconcelos - How do you show progress over time during an observation?

2 Amy Ladbrook @trueenglish365 - How do you give the most effective feedback to pupils and ensure it is followed up?

3 What text would you recommend teaching and why? (Any text type/ any Key Stage)

4 What simple but effective tip/ activity/ method would you recommend to other English Teachers?

No more than 4 please!

And if you would just like to come along and watch, please sign up below.  This will ensure that we can put on enough food/ refreshments etc and put together enough information packs. It would also be helpful if you include your school/ establishment and Twitter handle where appropriate.
