#YorkTU

The University of York Science Education Group (UYSEG), The Association for Science Education (ASE) and #ASEChat bring you the second annual York Summer TweetUp #YorkTU.

When?

Friday 9th August 2013.

10:15am to 5pm TweetUp and TeachMeet followed by evening social until late.

Where?

Day: Science Education, Alcuin D Block, University of York, Heslington, York, YO10 5DD.

Evening: The Deramore Arms, Heslington, York, YO10 5EA.

What is #YorkTU?

The daytime event will be based on a Science TeachMeet. Anyone attending can do a short (5 to 10 minute maximum) presentation. This is informal and the subject matter can literally be anything you find interesting or pertinent and would like to share and discuss. If you would like to attend and just listen to speakers and meet other attendees then that’s fine too.

The event will be a fun and relaxed opportunity for people to chat, share ideas and good practice with those curious about teaching and learning. Anyone can share great ideas they've trialled, a resource they love, a great website or activity - whatever you like! You can ask questions or simply turn up to soak up all the great ideas and enthusiasm.

And there will be prizes - thanks to SAPS, TeachitScienceOPAL ........offers welcome

The evening event will really be an opportunity to socialise and have fun, something we scientists are good at!

In 2012 we welcomed Science education professionals from across the UK -  it’s the perfect opportunity to put faces to twitter names!

Refreshments:

Tea and coffee provided

**Bring and share lunch**

Evening – bar food available at The Deramore Arms

Travel:

For details on getting to the University of York see here. The bus service (4 or 44) from York Train Station is excellent – no need for a taxi. If driving park in the North Car Park, near the National Science Learning Centre and walk through to the Science Education Group which is located in Alcuin D Block, marked as A9 on this map.

Accommodation:

Make a weekend of it! B&B accommodation is available on campus and in the beautiful City of York.

Bring your favourite demo!

Cheeky request from Alom and Jonathan: StoryCog are making another bunch of demonstration films (not just physics this time), and a documentary about the use of demonstrations in science teaching. We'll be attending with cameras, and we'd love to film your favourite demo and/or you enthusing about it. So please, bring a demo. Participation entirely optional, obviously.
